Stake Cakes can greatly reduce the advance of Ants into your hives. They come in sets of 2. Simply slip them over the top of a standard Star Picket. Sandwich some Vaseline or similar greasy substance between the two of them a lightly press together. Allowing for the Greasy medium to bleed through all the holes and gaps of the Cakes and Star picket. Creating a barrier that the Ants can do get around through or over.
Check from time to time to see that the greasy medium has not hardened or melted away if so just replace and repeat the install procedure. Unfortunately they don't and won't stop Ants from accessing your hives from nearby trees, branches, grasses of other vegetation that may surround your hives. But for Stakes, they are GREAT MATE!
